Newham is changing

Let’s make it a change for the better

In 2012 the Olympics are coming to Newham, and a new chapter will begin for the borough.

Before that happens, though, many things can and will change – and many of those changes will have a direct impact on you and your community.

So what will happen? How will it affect you? What are your thoughts, ideas, and reactions? How can they be heard? And how can you find others who share them?

One answer is right here on this page. Because MapNewham is about you, your community, and your future. You want to make the very most of the opportunities that future will bring – and so does everyone who cares about Newham.

MapNewham is here to help you do just that.

What is MapNewham?

MapNewham is a way for everyone who lives in the borough to share information and ideas about it – and to show not only what’s going to happen, but what’s happening now, and what has already happened.
For example, it will show you the plans for the Olympic Park – laid out on a map where you can also see a satellite view of what the site looks like at the moment. From here on photographs can be added at any time, linked to an exact location on the map, to show what’s happening at any given moment. This will build up into a complete record of the construction process – with the chance to add your thoughts and comments 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

MapNewham is a focus both for community and for opportunity

The topics covered here at MapNewham are up to you, because these pages will be built with the information you provide. To see what’s possible, take a look at the Newham Greenway page.

The information can include text, photographs, audio files and video. For example, you could take a photograph or a short piece of video on your mobile phone, link it to a place on the Newham map, and add a few spoken or written words to explain why you’ve put it there.

How you can use MapNewham

  • To promote resources like the Newham Greenway – and to suggest new ways of using them, or concerns about the way they’re used at the moment.
  • To highlight issues that matter to you, to document those issues, and to give others a chance to add their own thoughts, ideas and opinions.
  • To promote opportunities, particularly in connection with the Olympics, so that new local jobs really can go to local people.
  • To create and support interest groups, whether they are action groups, music groups, poetry groups or any other kind of group!
  • If you’d like to do any of these things, but you’re not sure how to start, read our quick guide or contact our helpline.

MapNewham is your community page – make it what you want it to be!
